I wonder if you are aware that pediatric neurology in Russia is VERY different from pediatric neurology here in the US?

Hello1
I cann't say that I know what is the difference. But I would like to know it, so I think it'll be usefull for me to read this book anyway.
Thank you for your help
Lyudmila
The differences are so big, that it is not worth reading Western books if you are going to practice neurology in the Russian style. You can have an idea about the differences if you check some net resources on adoption from Russia. Dr. Aronson has a very nice chapter devoted to Russian school of neurology and defectology at orphandoctor.org. Some of her statements might be a little bit too strong, but I found myself in a great agreement with her. Dr. Downing had a nice review also; I hope his site is still alive since he has retired recently - russianadoptions.com (or .org).
If you still want to familiarize yourself with the neurology in the US style you may try any of the books which are available. Amazon offers just a few of them. You may try to check any medical library around to browse textbooks they have. Nobody will be checking you identity at the entrance.
Good Luck.

Hello!
Ok! Thank you. I'll find this differens and make my opinion about this Russian Style
Many thanks
Mila
I also found it useful to read review articles in the leading journals on subjects of my interest. You may also try on-line resources like MD consult (free for 1 mo, than just $300 a year), web sites of Child Neurology Society|American Academy of Neurology (AAN), American Academy of Pediatrics.
If you are interested in child development you may find interesting texts on physical therapy, occupational therapy and developmental pediatrics.
You do not have to write to me in English. I still understand Russian.
Yours,
V.I.

Л.
Massage therapy goes under umbrella of occupational and physical therapy. Try to check with them. My boss says that all the massage therapy is BS (bull ****). The American Academy of Pediatrics also states that it is useless. However, in my NICU we have massage therapy for stable babies which was introduced by previous chief. It was started following publication of a study showing that massaged babies were gaining weight faster. I do believe that this might be true but mostly because of central effects of braking psyho-emotional isolation. There is an international association for infant massage which tries to enter US with no much success.
There are no problems for Russian doctors to come and study here in the US. The US government even pays you for your studies. But those people with US knowledge would be just sent to the hell by most of Russian academic institutions and hospitals. At least I had really unwelcome reception there.
Good luck.

Hello!
Thank you for advices about phisical therapy. I'll try to know more about it.
I guess I know what do you mean about the possition in Russian institutes.
But my boss in Russia has another opinoin. She really wants her studient to get as more new knowledges and skills as possible....
May I ask you how can I foind any programs for studing? Maybe there are any exchange programms
Thank you very much
L.
The J1 visa is called exchange student visa. You can come here and study in a residency and than apply the accrued knowledge back in your motherland. However, most of the time people use this visa to get in the US and stay forever. To start a residency here you have to pass USMLE and compete for the spot in the residency program. Doesn’t it remind you the entry exams and “konkurs” we had at med schools in Russia?
Did you try this place: http://www.iaim.net ? Most of the benefits they claim would sound really weird for anyone with medical education.
